Future of Automobile Industry- Autonomous Vehicles (AVs)

autonomous vehicles

As we move forward in time, technology also advances. Humans have come way forward from the invention of wheel in ancient times. Transportation is a major activity in which humans have been involved. Subsequently, a lot of human power and intellect was spent on the transformation and development of transporting vehicles. Today, we are making driverless cars or autonomous vehicles a reality. Can you believe at one time the mode of transportation was animals! Well, I’m not going there. Autonomous vehicles are the future that we aspire to make true. But what is the future of Automobile Industry? We shall discuss its benefits in the upcoming years in this article.

Autonomous vehicles (AVs)- future of Automobile Industry

In the simplest language, these are driverless cars that run without or at the least human intervention. These cars are able to study the environment and take decisions based on a logical algorithm. They are made in such a way that they learn from their environment and improvise their performance.

These cars work on many advanced technologies like lidar, radar, sonar, odometry, GPS, and inertial measurement units. They are enabled with advanced control systems that analyze the sensory information obtained from the surroundings to decide on appropriate navigation paths. They also identify any obstacles and signs coming in the course. With an autonomous vehicle 2021, you can sit without worrying about traffic rules and relax and enjoy your journey.

Future of Automobile Industry – Benefits of AVs

Technological advancements are aimed at improving living standards and easing the usual complicated tasks. There was a time when it would take hundreds of mathematicians to do complex calculations but with the introduction of computers, this reduced to few machines. Not only did the speed of calculation enhanced but also the accuracy. On the same line, the benefits of AVs hold the future of Automobile Industry. These are:

  • The elderly- As age dawns upon us, we become physically and somewhat mentally incapable of making rational decisions. Our quality of movement and decision-making reduces. But life doesn’t. Autonomous vehicles can essentially bring a ray of hope to the lives of elderly people. These vehicles will grant them greater mobility even in their last days.
  • Specially Abled People- How can we forget the life-changing revolution that autonomous vehicles can bring in the lives of disabled persons. Disability hampers the mobility and will of people. With these AVs, such people can benefit a lot without depending on anyone anymore.
  • Accidents- As a matter of fact, most accidents that happen on roads are due to the negligence and incompetence of people. With autonomous vehicles, that run on a completely logical surrounding, these accidents can be reduced to a great extent. There is a hope that greater use of AVs will reduce deaths caused by accidents by 90 percent in America.
  • Environment- It is believed that with the introduction of more and more autonomous vehicles that are run on electricity, environmental degradation can be reduced to a great extent. Since autonomous vehicles lead to lesser traffic congestions and smooth traffic movement, the amount of emission can be reduced to a great extent.
  • Traffic- Autonomous vehicles are the future of Automible Industry as they tend to revolutionize traffic. It is expected that autonomous vehicles will reduce congestion on traffics, increase roadway capacity, give higher speed limits, lesser accidents, and smoother rides.

Challenges to the Future of Automobile Industry

By now we have understood how autonomous vehicles are the future of Automobile Industry. They are in every way innovative and essentially enhance living standards. However, at the same time, there are many challenges or demerits of this technology. Some of them are described here.

  • Employment- As more and more things involve technology, a direct impact can be seen on the employment of people. As more and more driverless cars will be on-street, there will be a lesser need for drivers. So, many drivers will lose jobs.
  • Hacking- Technology is subject to security risks from unauthentic sources. Hackers may hack into the central control system of the vehicle and control its movement. This can increase thefts and other crimes.
  • Privacy- For a driverless transportation system to work efficiently there will be a requirement of personal information like location. This personal information if gotten into the wrong hands can cause great harm to individuals and organizations.
  • Moral issues- Can we fully trust autonomous vehicles? There is a widespread concern that leaving human lives in the hands of machines can make things really worse. After all, it is just a machine. Any malfunctioning can cause great damage to human lives.
  • Responsibility for breach of the law- As we trust a machine with human-based work. But who shall be held responsible in case of breach of the law? Hence, there is skepticism on this aspect of driverless cars.

The future of the Automobile Industry is very bright with autonomous vehicles. But there are certain challenges as well. Hence, one must be careful in coming to any conclusion. All the aspects should be considered and the least loss should be expected.
